The Tokyo software company has also released iPhone and iPad versions that let users check on and operate a terminal running on their Mac while away from it
TOKYO, JAPAN, October 6, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — LIFE SCAPE, K.K., a Tokyo-based software company, has released Atriens, a file manager for macOS that combines folders and a terminal in a single window. On September 26, 2026, the company also released iPhone and iPad versions on the App Store for operating the Mac remotely.
AI agents are increasingly used for work on the Mac, and arranging files so that an agent can work with them has become a routine task. In practice, this has meant switching between two apps: a file manager to look at documents and a terminal to run the agent.
A second problem arises after the user leaves the desk. An AI agent often runs for 5 to 30 minutes and stops to ask for confirmation along the way. If no one is watching the screen and no one can answer from outside, the work stops there.
Atriens attaches one terminal to each folder. Commands can be typed in the folder that is open, and switching folders switches the terminal with it. The color and mark on each tab show whether a task is running, waiting for input or finished, and a macOS notification is sent when a task ends or asks for confirmation. Tasks that were running when the app closed can be resumed from the same place the next time it opens.
Folders stored in different places, such as footage on an external disk or documents on a NAS, can be grouped under one project in the sidebar. No files are moved; each stays in its original location. iCloud, Google Drive and external disks appear in the same sidebar.
Atriens does not sell AI inference. It connects to models running locally on the Mac or to the user’s own API keys, so the monthly bill does not grow with use.
With the paid plan, the iPhone and iPad versions show the terminal running on the Mac and accept input from the device in hand. The screen is reflowed to fit the width of the device, and the iPad can show the folder list and the terminal side by side. Folders registered on the Mac are also available, with previews of text, images and PDFs. On the same Wi-Fi network, the devices connect directly; when apart, the connection switches automatically to a relay server.
Traffic between the Mac and the mobile device is encrypted end to end, and the relay server carries only data it cannot open. The key used to connect is passed directly to the device by QR code and is not stored on any server.
“Since I started using AI agents, I have more and more often had them work on files on my Mac from the terminal. I thought it would be efficient to work with Finder and the terminal side by side, but I could not find an app that did that, so I built one myself,” said Hisashi Hirajo, CEO of LIFE SCAPE, K.K.
All features for use on the Mac alone, including the sidebar, terminal, preview and Git, are free with no time limit. The paid plan for use from an iPhone or iPad costs ¥780 per month, ¥6,800 per year or ¥14,800 as a one-time purchase, including tax. One license covers up to three Macs at the same time, with no limit on the number of iPhones and iPads, and no account registration is required. Atriens runs on macOS 14 or later.
